Prologue
Sometime after Kouichi and Kouji were born their parents got divorced. Their mother, Tomoko, took custody of Kouichi while their father, Kousei, took custody of Kouji. This most likely happened when they were still babies because neither had any memory of having a brother.
Kousei eventually remarried, although Kouji did not immediately accept his new stepmother. All this time Kouji believed his mother to be dead. She wasn't though, she was living with Kouichi. Being a single mother she had some difficultly making ends meet but managed to do alright. It was Kouichi who first discovered that he had a brother. When his grandmother was in the hospital she told Kouichi that he had a twin brother named Kouji. Kouichi was able to locate Kouji's house, but was not brave enough to approach him. When he finally had enough courage to talk to Kouji he followed him to the train station. He missed Kouji in the elevator so he decided to take the stairs instead. While running down the stairs he slipped, fell on his head and blacked out. His spirit was then brought to the Digital World by Cherubimon who promised to help Kouichi get rid of the darkness in his heart. He was gave him the human Spirit of Darkness and Kouichi turned into Duskmon. Beginning
Duskmon proved to be a difficult enemy to defeat. Even with their combined powers the Chosen Children were unable to defeat him. However, Duskmon could not bring himself to kill Kouji. After wounding him in battle Duskmon was suddenly overcome with emotions. For reasons he could not explain he was angry at himself for hurting Kouji. Duskmon could sense that there was connection between him and Kouji.
Kouji started to feel the same as well. It was only until he fought against Duskmon as BeoWulfmon that his suspicions grew. During the battle Duskmon used an attack which invaded Kouji's memories, he too felt the same emotional pain that Kouji did. After this they unleashed so much energy in their battle that their human forms were exposed for a brief second. He was so shocked that he got distracted and Duskmon was able to get an upper hand. Since then Kouji has been wondering who the other boy was, the other boy who looked exactly like him. Cherubimon then told Duskmon that he first came to the Digital World as Kouichi, and that's it. He gave Duskmon the Beast Spirit of Darkness that would allow him to spirit evolve to Velgmon. During their battle Velgmon injured BeoWulfmon enough that he changed back to Kouji. Just as Velgmon was about to give the fatal blow Kouji's D-Scanner started to glow. The light brought back more of Kouichi's memories. Velgmon retreated. After this, Duskmon consulted Cherubimon who tricked Duskmon and twisted his memories to make Duskmon fight Kouji, the person who was supposedly responsible for making him unhappy. During their next fight Duskmon revealed to BeoWulfmon that he was his brother and that their mother was indeed, alive. Kouji was stunned because this whole time he believe his mother was dead. His father lied to him. After discovering that the Kouichi was his brother, Kouji did not want to fight him. Takuya was left to fight off Velgmon alone but, he needed Kouji's help. Takuya convinced Kouji that he needed to fight Kouichi if he wished to save him. So both of them teamed up and were able to defeat Velgmon. Kouji scanned both Spirits of Darkness and Kouichi returned to his human form. Interlude
After regaining consciousness Kouichi is immediately questioned by Kouji, who wants to know more about his mother. Kouichi explains how he first found out about Kouji's existence and even the times when he followed Kouji, but was too nervous to talk to him. However, he is unable to tell Kouji and Takuya how he got to the Digital World in the first place because he could not remember. He explains how after he feel down the stairs and blacked out. He remembers waking up a strange place surrounded by images of his mother and Kouji. He grows angry at how his mother is in pain while Kouji is playing with his father. All alone in an unknown world Kouichi met Cherubimon. There Cherubimon gave him the Spirit of Darkness. And that's all he is able to remember.
After telling his story he goes with the others on the Trailmon, but sits in a different compartment. Neither talk. Kouichi feels guilty that he tried to kill Kouji and his friends. Kouji, on the other hand, doesn't know how to go about talking to Kouichi. His whole life he has been an only child and so he's clueless when it comes to trying to talk to your brother. While in the Trailmon the group is ambushed by Cherubimon. They are all defeated out by Cherubimon's attack, Heaven's Judgement. Kouji saves Kouichi from the attack so he isn't hurt. Kouichi confronts Cherubimon, who tries to persuade him to rejoin his side. Kouichi in response says that he no longer wants revenge and talking to Kouji has changed him. This triggered something in the Spirits of Darkness because they came soaring out of Kouji's D-Scanner. A black D-Scanner appears before Kouichi and the Spirits of Darkness change shape. Kouichi spirit evolves Löwemon and KaiserLeomon. He battles Cherubimon and defeats him, however, it turned out it was a only a projection and the real Cherubimon is still alive and well. Kouichi heads off alone to fight Cherubimon but, Kouji stops him and says that they will only be able to defeat him as a team. From then on Kouichi goes with the other Chosen Children. It takes some time for him to come out of his "shell" but, eventually he becomes a part of their close nit group. End
Several hints are dropped throughout the rest of the series that show that Kouichi may not be all that he seems. For example, he doesn't seem to be able to get physically hurt. When the Chosen Children are attacked by the Royal Knights they were so beaten and battered that their digicode ring is exposed, except for Kouichi. And then when they were blasted to the moon Kouichi was able to get up almost immediately while the others remained unconscious until they received medial treatment from the Starmon. Kouichi starts to wonder about this when Bokomon points it out to him but, he doesn't think much of it. Finally, LordKnightmon reveals the truth; it is only Kouichi's spirit that is in the Digital World, his body is still in the human world.
When Kouichi finds out that he is not completely in the Digital World, he does not know what to think. Complete confused, he begins to sink into depression. Kouji notices right away that something is bothering his twin and tries to talk to Kouichi. But the older twin denies that anything is brother him. Their little talk is interrupted when Lucemon begins to use the digicode he has collected to open a portal to the human world. The Chosen Children go to try to stop them. They are soon overwhelmed by his power and just as Lucemon prepares to deliver the final blow Kouichi uses his body as a shield. He gives his two spirits to Kouichi and his data is scanned by Lucemon. Kouji receiving the spirits triggers something and Takuya and Kouji to spirit evolve into Susanoomon. They defeat Lucemon and then with the help of Izumi, Junpei and Tomoki she destroy his final form, Lucemon Satan Mode, just as he is able to enter the human world. The Digital World is safe and restored to it's former glory but, there's still one problem--getting Kouichi back. Löwemon appears on the screen of Kouji's D-Scanner and tells him that it's possible to bring Kouichi back to life but, they have to hurry. The Chosen Children quickly say their goodbyes and go through the portal to the human world. They find themselves back at the train station at the exact time that they left. No time has passed since they were in the Digital World. Kouji realizes that there still might be some time left before Kouichi falls down the stairs. But they are too late. Kouichi has already fallen and he's in the hospital where doctors are trying to revive him. Kouji, Takuya, Junpei, Izumi and Tomoki run into the ER to see Kouichi. Kouji goes by his brother's side and starts crying when he sees his twin’s lifeless body. A single tear drops onto Kouichi's forehead and he starts to cry as well, he's alive. The twins embrace as the others watch and their D-Scanners turn back into cell phones. Their adventure in the Digital World is over and they go back to their normal lives. |
